Some Pics

Ran out to the river on Sunday and had to show KP how to fish....He spent most of the time babying his yellow lab puppy, Tanner. Water was high and borderline blown out, but we managed a few. It rained periodically and was pretty cold. Oh, and we hit the Lower Feather first thing in the morning and hooked up with some small steelhead, but I don't know if it was worth getting up at 5 AM.....

Pics are from the 10-26 trip.

Happy Halloween!

Had to bitch out on fishing today due to 25 mph winds in the canyon....good thing I didn't make the drive. Don't really care about rain or snow, but the wind will get you to your bones and make casting a pain in the ass. So maybe Sunday will be better.

Was able to come thru in the end and got a sweet costume for tonight. The girls have been decorating the house and it is going to be fun tonight! Everyone play it safe with the 5-0 out in full force.

Ween of Hallows is approaching

I have to be honest I'm not much of a Halloween fan.

I'm not trying to say I don't like to see hot girls dressed up all cute in their skimpy little outfits. Notice, I said hot girls not fat/ugly/weird girls. I'm not trying to say I don't like to go out and party hardcore with the crew.

What I am saying is why should I go buy a costume for $50 bucks, when it probably cost $5 - if that - to make and ship. Not to mention they look like complete shit. I guess if you get an expensive one it may be of better quality, but who knows? One thing I do know is the female costumes are way more flattering than the male ones...

I can think of countless things to put $50 to, starting with bills, then food, then fishing shit I don't need, then alcohol, then Udown clothes, etc. $50 for a stupid costume that looks like shit isn't worth it to me.

Plus, I'm not even getting any fucking candy at the end.............or am I??? ;-)

Location X....10-26-08

Loc X
Nice day
low, cooling flows

What a day we had on the water! Lots of beautiful, healthy wild rainbows today. Weather was really nice and the water temps were perfect. First big fish of the day we thought was a snag and I tried to pull it out upstream and my yank brought tight a nice fish. And there was nothingbetter than a ice cold Heineken at the end of the day to top it off.....

Ran into some pretty gay road rage on the way home. There was 3 bikers and 2 trucks in front of me going 40 in a 55. So I passed when the lines allowed and some douchebag in a F-150 tried to speed up. He tailgated me for 20 miles along a windy mountain road - the biker in front of me was going slow and I could not pass - and then promptly passed and cut me off at the first chance he has. Then I'm like whatever dude, you got a complex or something with your big truck and all, I tried passing him on in the right lane and he cut me off. I rolled down the window and gave him the thumbs up. Nice fucking driving, man.....You should teach driver's ed. Didn't want to let it get to me and a great day on the water, so I just passed him and shook my head in disbelief as he tried to give me stink eye.

Good thing I got some sick tunes to listen to. Get out there and fish people its on right now!

Weekend

And now, the weekend is finally here. I will be at the shop tomorrow and on the water on Sunday. This week has been so hectic with a major project and exam at school. I haven't studied as much as I have the past week in a long time. But now its time to relax and ride this puppy in to shore......

Yooba River: 10-15-08

I don't why I continue to fish this place. The Y really pisses me off sometimes. It was really consistent when I was in high school and now.....yeah, not so much.

3 of us fished all sorts of bugs and hit all different types of water. Not cracking today. Water was good, flows were...?, and the weather was nice. I got a few tugs and landed one about 13" or so. Other dudes I were fishing with got blanked. Was getting hot when we quit around 12:30 PM. Saw some moron fishing above the bridge - that shit is closed fool! You're about to get rolled on.

Not used to fishing other lines besides Sharkskins, I had to put a little more effort to get my line zippin' out. But in some spots I had a shitload of weight so we all know how that goes.

I'm proud of my dog though, he crossed som fast ass water like a champ. If only he had some labby oil up in his coat he'd be floating like a stonefly shuck in a pool.

So fuck the Yuba. Next time I decide to waste my time I'll tie some B/C Hoppers.

Pit: 10-13-08
Cold ( Water was very cold and nice)
Then warm midday

Burney was hella cold at 8 AM. Jumped out to Safeway to unload a 2 mug coffee and banana nut muffin shit. Filled up and rolled out to the water. Fishing was decent but size was lacking. Biggest maybe 14". Couldn't find a consistent fly, but everything seemed to work. Caddis, mayfly, midges were all out. Lots of soft ass takes - you got to set on instinct!

Long ass day, but it was a fun one. Found a new bag of jerky - Tillamook Sea Salt and Pepper. Good shit. ~ J

NFF: 10-12-09

NFF
Nice flow, but kinda low
Windy as a mofo!

Fished for a few hours with a buddy that got his ankle ran over by a golf cart the night before...We had to brace him up and his knee was jacked! Not the best place for a dude with injuries to be fishin', but he toughed it out.

Check out the tails, these fish got torque!

Updated for '09

Scott Fly Rods updated their website for 2009. Check it out: www.scottflyrod.com

The S4 is one of the greatest rods I have ever fished. G2 series are technical and can do it all for guys that like medium actions. X2S and STS are gangster. A3 is the newbie. Plus Warmwater and F touch are super specialized. All the rods fish well.

Ross Reels site is also set up for 2009. Momentum LT is a lighter spin off of the powerhouse they call the Momentum. Vexsis is so sick I can hardly keep my credit card in my wallet. Definitely going to grab those. Ross WW dropped a lot of new stuff for the dudes on a budget (which is most people!). Check them out:

Booked!

Airfare is done. SD for my sister's 21st b-day.

I heard they scan your water bottles at check-in. I pondered for a moment, "Would the H2O molecules retain x ray radioactive materials it was exposed to?

Who knows................?

Bet those guys hate their job.

Upper Sac: 10-4-2008

Upper Sacramento
580 CFS
Rain

The section of the river I wanted to start at was flowing like dirty toilet water. "I'd go up high..." is what KP says the night before....No kidding, man, flows tripled overnight! Up high was clear and cold. October Caddis are out in small numbers, "definitely an upper to mid river bug," says Bob from Ted Fay Fly Shop. You got that right.

We managed to get into fish in the AM and afternoon. Baetis came off and little dries worked with ease. These fish were defintely hammered this summer, takes were subtle and quick...if you know what I mean. Water quality sucked from Sims down, was decent from Dunsmuir to Conant, and normal (gin) Cantera to the lake.

It will be nutty on Wednesday/Thursday. Flows are back to around 200 CFS.
